In December, our 2nd VP/Historian Tom Rinelli, an avid fire apparatus photographer with a special focus on unique fire trucks was presented with an opportunity to further preserve firefighting history within the Town of Islip. Through his efforts, he documented the last Mack CF (Cab Forward) series fire apparatus still remaining within the Town of Islip through fire departments and a private collector.

The apparatus shown represent the Bohemia, Holbrook and West Sayville FD's where they remain in active service (Holbrook), as an antique (Bohemia) and as part of a private collection owned by a West Sayville FD member. Combined, these apparatus have provided a total of 116 years of active frontline service (and counting) having served a total of four departments in New York State (the West Sayville FD's Aerialscope also served the Whitney Point FD in Broome County for over 20 years).

The Mack CF series stands as a true icon in American firefighting, serving as a reliable workhorse utilized by numerous fire departments throughout the Town of Islip and major U.S. cities, including New York City, Buffalo, Philadelphia, and more. These classic rigs have left
an indelible mark on the fire service, cherished by both fire departments and passionate individual owners who proudly showcase them
at various fire service events such as parades, musters, and holiday gatherings.

The enduring legacy of the Mack CF series is a testament to its remarkable impact and significance in the firefighting community. Today, these vintage fire apparatus stand as prized possessions, revered for their historical value and proudly celebrated under the emblematic banner, "There's nothing like a Mack! #Bulldog".
